LATEST UPDATE OCTOBER 21st 2007 DHARMAVISION WAS PRESENTED AT THE MILAN SY CENTRE ON OCTOBER 20TH. STAND BY FOR MORE NEWS ABOUT USING FILMS TO PROMOTE SPIRITUAL VALUES.....
CLASSICS UPDATED NEW ENTRIES - THE ELEPHANT MAN - DRIVING MISS DAISY - SINGING IN THE RAIN
(The Illusionist) - Intriguing story about a stage magician and his forbiddden love for the fiancée of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire, were it not for one scene it would be an interesting family movie - 8
Harry Potter 5 - I think they did a good job with a difficult book, quite dark but with good special effects and some nice character development - 8
Happy Feet - Well my first reaction was "Not more blooming penguins!" but actually this is quite a sweet film with a lot of music and tap dancing....and penguins! 8/10
Bridge to Terabithia - Starts off as a lovely story but then something so sad happens that I'd rather not talk about it - Definitely not for kids or adults who cry easily 4/10
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM - Excellent film for all the family - Imaginative, funny and no vulgarity! 9/10
LADY IN THE WATER - Different type of film about a condominium caretaker who finds a nympth in the swimming pool 8/10
NUOVOMONDO - Some yogis liked this film about Southern italian peasants emigrating to America but we found it a little boring and inconclusive 6/10
OVER THE HEDGE - Cartoon about a group of animals pinching food from humans - suprisingly good with a atrong message 8/140
ERAGON - VISUALLY GREAT, FANTASY STORY ABOUT THE LAST DRAGON RIDER FIGHTING AN EVIL MAGICIAN - A BIT TOO SIMPLISTIC 7/10
8 BELOW - Man fights to save 8 huskies which have been stranded in Antartica- true story, great stuff 9/10
THE LAKE HOUSE - Strange but intriguing story of Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves who live in the same house but they can only communicate by letter becuase they live in different periods of time...
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA - Behind the scenes look at high fashion journalism, based on the story of Anna Wintours, Editor-in-chief of American Vogue. Interesting and quite entertaining 8/10
(JOYEUX NOEL) - This is a really thought provoking film based on a real incident; when French, Scottish and German troops spontaneously decided to have a ceasefire on Christmas day 1914. Highly recommended! 9/10
Once upon a time in Mexico - This would be more or less okay for kids were it not for Johnny Depps eyes Far fetched story about CIA/FBI involved in a drug cartels attempted coup in Mexico. Pleasant nonsense. 7
(X-MEN 3) Great stuff, very much in keeping with the first two, one scene with Wolverine and Jean necessitates the brackets! - 8
Brothers Grimm - Brilliant film, you can feel the influence of Monty Python but its subtle, ingenious and yet quite faithful to the story - 9
Martin Luther - Very interesting story about the father of protestantism - 8
Nanny McFee - Emma Thompson is excellent in this charming story of a rather sinister Mary Poppins type figure. Good performances also from Colin Furth and Derek Jacobi - 9
I would like to strongly recommend a film that I saw last night. It is
called "Water" directed by Deepa Mehta.
It is story of the fate of widowed women in 1938 India, so on the
surface it is film about social reform and the plight of the
under-privileged. But. of course, it is also a film about hope and
ascent and being the beautiful lotus in the polluted water.

OVER CHRISTMAS WE SAW A NUMBER OF SEASONAL FILMS - HERE ARE A FEW REVIEWS
A CHRISTMAS CAROL (2005) - Really naff version of the Dickens classic 4/10
(LOVE ACTUALLY) - Loads of top stars in what looks like a lovely Christmas story based in London; however it is, unfortunately, vulgar, gross and largely pointless 2/10
A WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BEVERLEY HILLS - A bit better, various little miracles in the good old American tradition 6/10
CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS - Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen decide to give Christmas a miss when their daughter is away - will their neighbours forgive them? - a few good laughs 7/10
WHEN THE ANGELS COME TO THE CITY - Peter Falk (Colombo) is an eccentric angel who has to sort a few things out in Los Angeles - a typical Christmas story with some unusual aspects 8/10
SURVIVING CHRISTMAS - Ben Affleck is the unlikely hero/villain of this strange film where a rich manager rents a family for Christmas - interesting and thought provoking, if a little over the top 8/10
